Miami ! Yes. That was my first international destination. Unfortunately it was not my pleasure travel but an official one. I was excited about my first international travel, like everyone. A 24 hour transit journey 'Mumbai - Frankfurt - Miami'. It was a night flight. I reached airport 4 hours earlier. I waved goodbye to my parents. Checked-in my luggage and took the boarding pass in my hands.
Now I realize that how much stressed I was during that moment. For accurate luggage weight, getting boarding pass, passing immigration and security till the flight actually took off.
I was overwhelmed. Yes. It was strange to have mixed emotions of being happy yet sad. The thought of going so far away from my parents, made me sad. Yet, I was looking forward to my new assignment with new team and at a new place. I was tired for mainly 2 reasons: first it was 3 am, I wanted to sleep and secondly I had travelled nearly 3 hours to get to airport from my town.
Finally the flight took off. There were many teenagers in the flight especially around my seat. In no time I realized that I was going to travel with a group of students. I was travelling during Indian summer vacation.
To my dismay I was sitting in middle of 2 such students with their teacher sitting behind us. None of them wanted to switch seats with me. I was stuck. After a lot of commotion and flight snacks they settled. The flight went silent as the lights went dim. One of them started to watch a movie. Apparently he had the volume so high that half a flight could hear the sounds even through the earphones. Other one switched on his lights and started to read. It was middle in night; everyone in the flight was tired and wanted to sleep. Finally after waiting for some time one of the flight attendant came to request to switch off lights and one of the passengers asked to lower the volume. I want to calm down so I had a warm tea and feel asleep.
But a girl sitting next to me probably had a habit of kicking in sleep. After a while she would kick and go back to sleep. That would shake me up. This went on for couple of more time until she realised and apologised to me. She made sure she didnt do that again.
Finally I was relieved and went back to sleep. I woke up 2 hours before landing. After that all went well.
We finally landed to Frankfurt and waited for my next flight to Miami. My next flight was pretty empty. All passengers were relaxed and minded their own business. I had a good sleep. Being on window seat I was excited to watch out but most of the time my flight flew over the sea. That was the time I lived through my excitement of my journey and destination.
After 8 hours I landed safely to Miami. Passing through immigration and customs, I started a new fun filled phase of life which lasted only for 3 months but were one of my most happy and experience gathering days.
Very good post. You have penned down your experience by travelling on an international flight for the first time. Nicely written. Keep up the good work.
